Information for All Students

Mobile Health Van Hits the Road

The new UW Mobile Health Outreach van, a tiny clinic on wheels, is the culmination of years of work by an interdisciplinary group of students, faculty and staff from across UW’s health sciences units. Various student outreach groups will use the van several times a month to meet people where they are to address their healthcare needs. You can read more about the Mobile Health Outreach Van and watch a video at UW News.
Introducing the New Wyoming Foundations Dean:
Dr. Brant Schumaker

Dr. Brant Schumaker, an associate professor with the Wyoming State Veterinary Laboratory, has been selected as the new director of the Wyoming-WWAMI Medical Education Program at the University of Wyoming. Schumaker replaces Tim Robinson, PhD, who has served in the director’s role since 2013. In his new role he will assume an academic appointment in the Division of Kinesiology and Health in the College of Health Sciences. Schumaker will begin his new role July 1.
Summer Financial Aid
  • Make sure you have accepted your financial aid award. It will not disburse if it is in the offer stage.
  • Recently submitted your summer aid application?
  • Email somfao@uw.edu and we will TRY to add before July 1.
  • Did not submit summer aid application?
  • Submit on MyUW ASAP and email somfao@uw.edu after you submit.
Financial Aid Holds
There are three primary types of financial aid holds:
  • Reduce loan hold
  • Pending information hold
  • Disbursement hold
Unfortunately, MyUW does not tell you the type of hold you have. All students will have a disbursement hold. Read below to determine if you also have a reduce loans hold and/or pending information hold for next steps.
  1. Reduce loan holds: This hold is added if you made a comment to reduce your loans when you accepted your award. It will not be removed until the comment is read but comments go to OSFA (the main Office of Student Financial Aid) and not SOM Financial Aid.
a. NEXT STEPS: Book an appointment or attend office hours to discuss reducing your loan and the interest rate implications.
2. Pending information holds: This hold is added if OSFA requested additional documents from you. You will know you have a pending information hold if there is a “Required Documents” tab in MyUW. The documents must be reviewed before the hold is removed.
a. NEXT STEPS: If you have not submitted the document, submit the correct Form ASAP. If you have submitted the document, we will finish reviewing before your summer aid disburses. Please do not email us to check on your document status, this slows down our review.
3. Disbursement holds: All students will have this hold and it will be removed prior to your class/clerkship start date. You do not need to contact our office about disbursement holds.
 Direct Deposits
See below for the date you can expect to receive your direct deposit depending on your first clerkship start date.
*If your aid disburses AFTER the tuition due date, tuition will be paid when you receive your aid. You will not be charged a late fee if you have accepted enough financial aid to cover all charges. You will continue to receive automatic tuition reminders from Student Fiscal Services.

If your clerkship doesn’t start until July or August and you need money sooner, you can apply for a UW short-term loan. It will automatically be repaid when your aid disburses. You can only apply if you don’t have an outstanding UW short-term loan.
Interest Rates
Interest rate changes go into effect July 1, 2021.

For loans with a first disbursement in June if you accept your loan for the entire academic year:
  • The Unsubsidized Stafford loan interest rate will be 4.3% for the whole year if you take out loans in consecutive quarters.
  • For example, if you take out loans in Summer, Winter and Spring but NOT Autumn, your Summer loan will be at the lower interest rate, but Winter and Spring will be at the higher interest rate.
  • The Graduate Plus loan interest rate will be 5.3% for the whole year if you take out loans in consecutive quarters.
For loans with a first disbursement after July 1, 2021:
  • The Unsubsidized Stafford loan interest rate will be 5.28%
  • The Graduate Plus loan interest rate will be $6.28%
